Overview
The Alliance for American Quilts is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1993 to unite the varied elements of the quilt world around a compelling shared vision. This vision understands quilts not only as works of art, but as tangible pieces of history with stories that urgently need to be documented and preserved.
The Alliance for American
Quilts serves as a catalyst to creative action, fostering a uniquely
supportive environment that encourages people from the quilt world's
creative, scholarly, and business perspectives to find common
ground and to build collaborative ventures.
Members of The Alliance's
Board of nationally-recognized scholars, quiltmakers, and educators
join with partnering cultural institutions, universities, and
a dedicated volunteer corps to develop innovative projects to
enhance recognition of quilts and quiltmakers in American culture
-- past, present, and future.
